Child and adolescent Therapy
I work with children ages 10 and up. It is important to remember that children are not just small adults. They think and understand differently than adults and require therapy to reflect those differences. I always assess a child’s developmental level and ensure that I meet them on their emotional and developmental level. I make sure that I create a safe environment for them to explore their experiences and to find healthy ways to manage their distressing emotions and experiences. I utilize a variety of tools to help children access and understand their emotions including: games, art, movement, and yoga. I also work collaboratively with the parents in order to help them learn how to effectively manage their children’s distressing emotions and to apply the lessons learned in therapy while at home.
I work with couples who are experiencing difficulty in their relationships or couples who are anticipating a difficult time due to significant life changes such as marriage, moving, loss, having a child, infertility etc. I also work with couples who are having a difficult time in their relationship after one partner has experienced a traumatic event. I use an emotion focused approach in order to help each individual discuss their own experiences, emotions, and needs in a way that allows them to be heard and validated. I help each person honor their own experiences and that of their partner. I also help each partner learn how to accommodate within the relationship to help ensure that all parties involved get their needs met.
